Training

Is work piling up and you would like others to use the electron microscope safely and effectively?

Want to develop the skills of people in your department, but don’t have the time?

Maybe you have taken on new operators who need to fast-track their training in order to rapidly become proficient at operating, aligning and obtaining top quality images from the EM?

We can help.

At ISS, we offer extensive training on various scanning and transmission electron microscope systems.

Our small team of TEM engineers has an unrivalled 75 years of TEM experience between them. One of them spent 2 years in the FEI factory in Eindhoven working as a final test engineer before spending 7 years with JEOL UK as a field service engineer, and another SEM engineer used to be a teacher. We can confidently offer training on all JEOL and FEI TEMs (prior to Talos/Glacios) and most SEM platforms. Areas covered are for example:

  • The science of electron microscopy
  • Specimen exchange
  • Imaging at low/high magnification
  • Operator-level maintenance e.g. filament exchange
  • User and instrument safety
  • Switching between various detectors, e.g. SE, BSE, EDX and absorbed current

TEM Specific Topics:

  • High resolution imaging – preparation, alignment, TEM settings, environment, camera settings
  • STEM/HR-STEM imaging – tips and advice, BF/DF/SED detector optimisation
  • Safe Liquid Nitrogen handling: loading and unloading, use with TEM imaging
  • CEOS probe and image corrector operation.
  • CCD Camera operation, various settings, basic maintenance and checks (Extensive experience in Gatan, AMT and Emsis platforms)

All content can be catered to the needs of your SEM/TEM operators.
